Big Systems: Implementations and Challenges
The scale and complexity of our Nation’s IT infrastructure is increasing dramatically. These comprehensive large scale systems, which focus on improving healthcare, national security and critical infrastructure, are progressively requiring cross-agency and department collaboration to ensure success.  As large-scale implementations increase, a number of challenges arise. They are developed and used by a variety of patrons with differing needs; constantly evolving; and, built using an assortment of parts with complex dependencies.  Agencies must overcome these challenges plus agency restrictions to implement successful programs, but how? Perhaps from lessons learned from successful programs and how hurdles that appear throughout the process were overcome to secure a long-term success?

Join AFCEA Bethesda on April 25 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center for “Big Systems – Implementation Challenges and Success,” an executive breakfast panel discussion on the demanding task of implementing a large-scale system, agency challenges and how they have overcome them to produce success.
Panelists will discuss:
  • Creating transparent, ongoing assessments to identify challenges
  • Professional services required to implement or repair large systems
  • Navigating the “status-quo bias” and inflexibility or inability to make important changes in managing a project
  • Benefits of agile development vs. Waterfall development
  • If agile development can be used to save time, money, and provide quick wins to garner stakeholder support and utilization? If yes, then how?
