The Civic Innovator of the Year Award is given annually by UCCS’s Center for Study of Government and the Individual as a way to recognize and honor local individuals or organizations that are doing valuable, interesting, innovative work in the community, by harnessing private sector initiative and energy in helping address problems that otherwise might fall solely on government to resolve. Past winners of the award include reform-minded former District 2 School Superintendent Mike Miles, Marcella Ruch of Mission Medical Clinic fame and a shared campus partnership between Pikes Peak Community College and the Early Colleges Charter School. The groundbreaking partnership at The Westside Community Center thus makes an ideal recipient of the 2013 award.
