-
Engage in discussions of how to teach tough-to-teach, tough-to-learn algebra concepts without technology and how TI-Nspire might enrich the mathematical learning experience
-
Discuss strategies to implement TI-Nspire technology effectively in the College Algebra classroom
-
Respond to post-workshop surveys and participate in an online discussion group to collaborate on effective technology use.
Benefits
- Six-hour hands-on workshop that will focus on tough-to-teach, tough-to-learn algebra concepts
- Each workshop participant will receive one TI-Nspire learning handheld and a single user license of TI-Nspire Computer Software – Teacher Edition, which includes the TI-SmartView™ emulator. The Teacher Edition version of TI-Nspire computer software will allow you to lead the entire class using a virtual display of the handheld device on a projector screen.

The workshop will be facilitated by Wade Ellis, West Valley College. Mr. Ellis has taught mathematics at West Valley College for more than 30 years. He is the recipient of two lifetime achievement awards: the Hayward Award for Teaching Excellence from the statewide Academic Senate of the California Community Colleges and the Mathematics Excellence Award from the American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges. During his time at West Valley College, he served as District Academic Senate President, as Co-Chair of a Master Planning Committee, as Mathematics Department Chair, and on two chancellor search committees. He was a Visiting Research Professor at the University of California Santa Barbara, and as Visiting Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received the Outstanding Civilian Service Award.
