
High-Risk Antepartum Training Program
Course Description:
This course is designed to prepare the experienced Family Centered Care nurse to care for the high-risk antepartum patient. This four day course highlights fetal monitoring, nursing care of specific clinical conditions affecting the antepartum patient including: the diabetic patient, pre-term labor, PIH, and bleeding disorders. The clinical component will be the customized clinical at the individual Medical Centers.
Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course the participant will exhibit the following skills:
1. Define the roles and responsibilities of the antepartum nurse.
2. Discuss the importance of maintaining the FCC philosophy.
3. Demonstrate priority-setting and problem-solving skills.
4. Discuss concepts of the team approach in FCC.
5. Demonstrate understanding of basic fetal monitoring.
6. Explain two clinical conditions affecting the antepartum and nursing interventions related to caring for these patients.
7. Discuss the care of the PIH patient.
8. Exhibit knowledge of the principles of diversionary activities for the patient on bedrest.
Contact Hours:
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, CEP9723 for 28 contact hours. All days must be attended consecutively to receive full credit. NO partial credit will be given.
