Welcome -

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium’s Health Research Review Committee, as the official conference planning committee, is pleased to host the 2009 Third Alaska Native Health Research Conference.  The conference is designed to provide a forum to share current health research within Alaska Native communities and to incorporate requests made from the previous two conferences.  As the program for this conference developed, three basic themes emerged:

•  Build Capacity for Health Research in Communities
•  Bridge the Divide Between Traditional Wisdom & Western Science
•  Blend Elder Wisdom with Youth Technology to Provide Direction
   and Focus in Community Research

We thank the Alaska Native Elders Health Advisory Committee for taking the lead in opening this conference.  We also thank the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Arctic Investigations Program (CDC AIP), the Center for Alaska Native Health Research (CANHR), the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) Policy Research Center, the University of Alaska Anchorage Masters in Public Health (UAA MPH) program, and First Alaskans Institute for their support of this conference.

Finally, we greatly appreciate the willingness of all speakers, presenters and moderators, from Alaska and elsewhere, to share their experience and expertise with us.
